We started out on time but then had one of the wettest May's on record. This slowed plant development and put us three weeks behind, throughout the rest of the season. The rains in the late Spring and early Summer really defined the cool growing season. Worried all year long, we were forced to wait and watch as mother nature gave us a long, and particularly dry fall. The other defining moment for this vintage came at the tail end of the 2010 season with...well...a lot of birds! We had to leave our fruit hangingo n the vine for so long that the migratory birds came and started to munch on our Pinot Gris. Our Riesling and Pinot Noir crop was netted and was therefore saved! We had a real battle on the sorting table this year with lots of botrytis coming in on the Pinot Gris and Riesling. Fortunately, with small batch production, and a fantastic Cellar Master, we were able to sort out only the best clusters of fruit. These low yield year's often produce the finest crop, and this year was no exception!
