Product Description
I made the 2012 Sonoma Coast pinot noir from both Dijon & pinot nero clones, grown entirely by the Crane family in their home vineyard; located just south of Santa Rosa, the site benefits from marine air that flows inland from Bodega Bay down through the 'Petaluma Gap', across the Crane's vines and up the eponymous Crane canyon. This cooling afternoon breeze makes for good flavor and color development in the heat sensitive pinot fruit. I find a bright raspberry and black tea flavors from both clones, the Dijon fruit showing softer texture and more earth, while the Italian pinot nero produce slightly darker and more 'wild berry' character...a great combination. The Crane family came to Sonoma County during the 1850's, and have farmed this land ever since. I feel honored to benefit from their commitment to the farming life, which continues through this vineyard, and these wines.
