MS clone Syrah, hand-picked and fermented with 5% whole bunch to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months is 25% new French oak, then aged a further 6 months with a greater percentage of new oak. Full, deep, purple hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. This has a very elegant, refined and tightly bound nose with black fruits and powdery black pepper aromas interwoven and integrated with violetty perfumes, oak spices and toast. Medium-full bodied, spicy black berry fruits, plums and licorice merge with dark herb and some stalky elements, forming an integrated and concentrated core and strong palate line. The flavours are supported by very fine tannins which provide soft textures and a smooth flowing mouthfeel. The acidity is discrete, allowing the wine to finish with fine, grainy, drying tannins. This is an elegant, fine grained Syrah with complex spicy fruit and oak flavours. Match with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean fare over the next 6-7+ years. 70 cases made. 18+/20 Nov 2012
