2010 was the coolest vintage on record. It was a difficult year that separated the average winemakers from the exceptional. We are lucky that Charlie Hoppes is our winemaker because his experience turned what could have been a disastrous vintage into an exceptional one. Because he chose the optimum time to pick the fruit we ended up with mature fruit with lower brix levels, an unusual combination for Washington State. Many winemakers waited for the brix levels to increase and, because of the unusually heavy fall rains, the fruit mildewed and rotted.
